WHY THIS COLLECTION?
Sukkot invites us to dwell within a temporary structure shaped by beauty, memory, hospitality and divine space. The ilanot in this collection bring a distinctive visual presence into that setting.
One particularly meaningful connection concerns the seven Ushpizin. In classical ilanot, the names of the seven holy guests appear within the sefirotic medallions from Hesed through Malkhut. The Ushpizin are arranged according to the sefirotic structure of the ilan, rather than their order of appearance in the Torah.
Displayed in the Sukkah, these intricate, centuries-old diagrams add another layer of meaning to the mitzvah of dwelling there and welcoming the Ushpizin.

These classic works were selected for their visual presence and their resonance within the festival setting. Each is reproduced at five feet high, preserving the distinctive proportions and character of the original artwork.

The Magnificent Parchment
Created in Italy around 1500 by an anonymous kabbalist and scribal artist, the Magnificent Parchment is one of the most ambitious surviving ilanot of the Renaissance. Across its long composition, more than 33,000 words appear alongside multiple arrangements of the sefirot, symbolic figures, flowing rivers, the Garden of Eden and a large zodiac wheel. The sheer density of its text and imagery makes it impressive from across the Sukkah while still rewarding a much closer look.

The Thirty-Two
Paths of Wisdom
Produced in central Europe in 1774, this precisely symmetrical diagram appears in a manuscript of R. Ḥayyim Vital’s Etz Ḥayyim, copied by Israel Sofer. It presents the ten sefirot joined by twenty-two channels corresponding to the Hebrew letters. The paths follow the aleph-bet's traditional division into three horizontal, seven vertical and twelve diagonal lines. Its balance and clarity make a complex kabbalistic structure immediately visible without crowding the composition.

The Great Parchment
Produced on parchment in Paris in 1607 by Jacob Ḥebroni, the Great Parchment reworks an older Italian ilan. Its colored medallions contain the sefirot and divine names, while the surrounding composition includes the Menorah, Lechem ha-Panim, Divine Chariot (Merkava), and depictions of the Garden of Eden. Its broad format, bold lettering, and colorful imagery make it especially well suited to the larger scale of the sukkah tapestry.

Coppio Ilan Amulet
Designed by the North African kabbalist R. Isaac Coppio in the early 18th century, this ilan-amulet (kameah) was likely created in Jerusalem around 1900 by Nissim Sejera, a Bukharan master sofer. The tapestry reproduces the upper section of a kameah originally worn for protection, offering a rare encounter with the ilan as both a kabbalistic work and a deeply personal source of spiritual protection. That purpose carries particular resonance in the Sukkah, which represents the sheltering presence of the Divine.

Machine-washable without fading and designed for use across future Sukkot seasons. Final care instructions are included with every order.
The fabric is rated for up to two years of continuous outdoor exposure. Actual longevity depends on weather, handling, washing and storage. Each tapestry includes a discreet Ilanot Sacred Arts website address along the lower edge.
