Our story

Ilanot Sacred Arts was born from a growing interest to bring the hidden beauty of the Jewish mystical tradition into the public eye. The prints featured here emerge from the groundbreaking Ilanot Project, a research initiative led by Professor J. H. (Yossi) Chajes at the University of Haifa. Chajes’s pioneering work brought attention for the first time to ilanot — kabbalistic “trees” that visualize divine realms, metaphysical processes, and sacred knowledge in breathtaking diagrammatic form.

Professor Chajes’s research culminated in The Kabbalistic Tree (2022), which offers the first comprehensive study of these remarkable and beautiful artifacts and which has been lauded as a “monumental achievement that will be valuable to scholars and general readers interested in Judaism, religion, and art history.” For those who wish to explore further, the Ilanot Project makes many of these works available online, with interactive editions, translations, and commentaries added on an ongoing basis.

The idea for this store arose organically. As increasing numbers of people encountered these images — whether at lectures, exhibitions, or in private study — it became clear there was wide and heartfelt interest in making them available. With the full support of Professor Chajes, who is also the father-in-law of Ilanot Sacred Arts founder Joshua Genuth, this project took shape.
